This is a public art project commissioned by the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority. It’s a tile art design on a fountain near the Sports Hall of Fame area downtown as part of the Walk of Fame where signature plaques can be seen by visitors and citizens alike. I worked under Opie Otterstad, the head artist and designer of the project, and other artists. This fountain is estimated to hold half a million tiles. The project heavily used color theory to make the images come to life. Placing the tiles was crucial for the faces of these Hall of Famers because it either brought the piece together or made it feel out of place. Using complimentary, analogous, and monochromatic colored tiles creates an art piece that looks like pretty colored pixels up close and makes a clear picture from far away.
